GCSE Results Day 2020
Drumglass High School pupils have excelled in their GCSEs in what surely must be the most difficult and challenging year in the history of the qualification. Top performers included: Aimee Wilson, James Black, Kyle Glasgow, Grace Hunter, Sarah Liggett, Kate McMullan, Hayden Shilliday, Leah Cassidy, Akvile Andrijauskaite, Uljana Dostanko, Reece Falloon, Adam Geddis and Lucy Truesdale.
With a school year that came to a sudden and unexpected halt in March, year 12 pupils might quite righty have been concerned about their GCSE results. For the first time ever, their performance was taken out of their hands. Having witnessed the difficulties experienced by A level students previously and before the Department of Education reversed its decision and decided to use teacher assessed grades, pupils understandably have been anxious.
Thankfully, common sense prevailed and the professional opinions of the teachers, who have worked so closely with the pupils over the last five years and know them so well, came to the fore.
Commenting on the success of the pupils, Principal, Mrs Mary Shilliday said, “I am so proud of our Year 12 pupils and their fantastic results. I appreciate that it has been a challenging and stressful time for these young people, but they have shown great resilience and courage. I know that I speak for all the staff of Drumglass High School when I say that they have been a delight to work with over the last five years. We are all so pleased to have had the opportunity to guide this wonderful group of young people and help them on their educational journey.” She continued, “On behalf of the staff and governors of the school can I congratulate all of them and wish each and every leaver continued success as they take the next big step in their young lives.”
