Hospitality 

 

 

Through studying a GCSE in Hospitality, students develop a broad knowledge and understanding of the hospitality industry. In particular, they will iearn about:

  • How hospitality organisations operate

  • How the hospitality industry meets people's needs

  • The products and services offered by the hospitality industry

  • Employment possibilities in hospitality

  • The importance of quality and customer service in the hospitality industry

  • Basic food hygiene practices

  • The skills required to provide food and drink for customers

 

Students develop the core skills required for working in the hospitality industry and transferable skills that are important in working life.

 

Many students with a qualification in GCSE Hospitality go on to have successful careers as chefs, waiters, front office managers, event managers, and/or account managers.

This GCSE is divided into three teaching and learning units:

Unit 1 : The Hospitality Industry

Unit 2: Hospitality and the Customer

Unit 3: Food and Beverage Preparation Service

 

Unit 1: The Hospitality industry 

External written assessment, 1 hour examination; all questions compulsory =25% of final grade

 

Unit 2: Hospitality and the Customer

External written assessment, 1 hour examination; all questions are compulsory =25% of final grade

 

Unit 3: Food and Beverage Preparation Service

Internal controlled assessment = 50% of final grade

Students must complete the controlled assessment tasks:

Produce a portfolio of three tasks and:

Contribute to planning and carrying out an event or function
